We’re proud to be a sponsor for The Ultimate Z.E.N. (Zero Energy Now) Home! In collaboration with Denver’s Thrive Home Builders (Thrive), the Energy & Environmental Building Alliance (Eeba) and Pro Builder, the project team designed a 2,522 square-foot home with the goal of achieving LEED® Gold as well as EPA Energy Star® and Indoor airPLUS certifications.
Thrive specializes in sustainable, high-performance and healthy homes. For this house, the project team set its sights on net zero energy, meaning they wanted the home to be fully electrified and decarbonized. As HVAC plays a big role in residential energy consumption, the team decided upon our Zoned Comfort Solutions® for energy-efficient heating and cooling.
“In this home, Mitsubishi [Electric] contributed a very efficient heat pump heating and cooling system to help not only heat and cool the home effectively, but super efficiently,” explained Bill Rectanus, vice president of operations, Thrive. “This really aided in keeping our HERS score low and our energy consumption low so that we could minimize the amount of solar we put on the roof.”
The Mitsubishi Electric Difference
Ultimately, the Mitsubishi Electric Performance Construction team specified a hybrid ducted and ductless system featuring a variety of our indoor unit styles including: Wall-Mounted Indoor Units, EZ-FIT® Recessed Ceiling Cassette, SLZ-KF Four-Way Ceiling Cassette and the SVZ Multi-Position Air Handler.
The system is quiet, reliable and promotes indoor air quality for the future homeowners. “The reliability on the Mitsubishi Electric systems is exceptional in that they are designed for 20 to 30 years of continuous operation,” explained Shawn LeMons, performance construction manager, Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US. “Every single piece of equipment that moves through the factory goes through a variety of tests and those test results are kept on record for 30 years for that serial number.”
Completed in October, the home obtained a fantastic HERS score of 15 and is a prime example of what the future of sustainable, healthy and affordable home development looks like in the years to come.
